Singers of all ages! American Idol music director Michael Orland will lead a Master Class in vocal performance and audition technique, with special appearances by New York cabaret artists Sidney Myer (2016 Broadway World Best Cabaret Show) and Nicolas King (AMG Artist of the Year Award)
As one of the most respected musical directors in the industry, Michael Orland helped nurture and focus the talents of artists like Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, and others as music director for American Idol. Michael also served as music director on NBC's Hairspray: Live! and is currently touring with Kristen Chenoweth as her musical director. A longtime friend of Bay Area Cabaret, Michael has served as head judge for our Bay Area Teen Idol competition since its inception in 2011, choosing our first Bay Area Teen Idol Bobby Conte (currently starring on Broadway in Robert DeNiro and Chaz Palminteri's musical, A Bronx Tale). Singers get 10 minutes of one-on-one coaching; auditors get to observe the performances and participate with the singers in the Q and A. Advance registration is required for singers and recommended for auditors.
