Known for her sultry, inventive renditions of classic American Songbook selections, as well as a challenging repertoire of bebop and vocalese arrangements, her jazz pedigree includes recognition at the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition, multiple Jazz at Lincoln Center appearances (starting at age 11), weekly engagements at Manhattan's Birdland, and guest appearances with the likes of Wynton Marsalis.
Raised in Berkeley, Benny Green has become one of our nation's top pianists and bandleaders. He began his touring career with Betty Carter, and became a Jazz Messenger. Appearing on over 100 albums, his efforts to expand upon the language of the classical jazz canon have placed him not only among the best interpreters, but also among the vanguard of musicians contributing to the evolution of hard-swinging, hard-bop jazz. |
